It’s easy to tell pickup trucks from other vehicles because of their unique appearance. Pickup trucks are characterized by their cargo compartments, which are usually open, unlike the closed cargo compartments found in sedans and coupes. They are also different in a way that they have different passenger cabin designs. A pickup truck can either have a standard cab, crew cab, or extended cab style to accommodate passengers.

The difference between these cab styles is their seating capacity and legroom. Although there are only three main cab styles, different pickup manufacturers use different terms to refer to them. For example, Dodge Rams use the term "quad cab" to refer to the extended cab style. The term "crew cab" is still used for long passenger cabins.

The standard cab style is characterized by two rows of seating and a single pair of doors. The second row seat is just big enough to accommodate three passengers, while the front seats can only accommodate two. Since there is only a single pair of doors, the front seats can be folded to make way for rear passengers.

Pickup trucks with extended cab styles like the Edmonton dodge ram 1500 also have rear seats, but unlike those with standard cab styles, they have an extra pair of doors to allow rear passengers to sit easier. The rear doors may be hinged at the front or at the rear, depending on the type of model. Although they provide better legroom for the rear passengers, the front seats are still more spacious compared to the rear seats.

Crew cabs on pickup trucks are more spacious compared to the first two cab styles. A crew cab offers more legroom; as much as 40 inches of legroom in some of the larger trucks. Pickups with crew cabs like the Edmonton dodge ram 2500 can house up to six passengers, whereas extended cab and standard cab pickups can only house 5 or fewer passengers. Crew cabs have 2 pairs of equally-sized doors, making it more convenient for passengers.

However, longer cab styles tend to take up too much weight and space, sacrificing possible storage space. For example, an Edmonton dodge ram 2500 with a crew cab can only have a cargo bed almost a foot shorter than the original cargo bed size. Therefore, it’s important to think things carefully when choosing between passenger and cargo capacity.
